Randolph Health and Novant Health open cardiac catheterization lab, expanding access to advanced care in Asheboro

ASHEBORO, N.C. - Today, Randolph Health and Novant Health invited members from the community for a ribbon cutting and to tour its recently installed cardiac catheterization lab, which opened for patients on July 28, 2025. The lab, which is powered by Novant Health cardiologists, will bring brand-new diagnostic and interventional heart procedures to Randolph Health and the surrounding community.

The highly anticipated heart and vascular lab marks the latest development in Randolph Health and Novant Health’s strategic new partnership to improve access to high quality cardiovascular care services in Randolph County. This partnership officially kicked off earlier this year with the addition of Randolph Health Heart & Vascular Institute, powered by Novant Health.

“We’re committed to making advanced heart and vascular care more accessible for our patients in this community,” said Tim Ford, CEO of Randolph Health. “Previously, patients in need of a diagnostic heart catheterization or a stent procedure had to be referred to another hospital -- not anymore. Thanks to our partnership with Novant Health’s Heart and Vascular Institute, more patients will be able to receive their heart care close to home.”

The state-of-the-art lab is conveniently located on the main level of the hospital. The lab will provide diagnostic catheterization and stenting procedures, designed to detect and clear any blocked arteries around the heart. Patients will now have access to advanced technology and expert care right here in their community, reducing the need to travel long distances for life-saving heart procedures.

“Our goal is to provide hope for heart patients in this community,” said Alisha Sexton, director of Novant Health’s Heart and Vascular Institute in the Triad region. “While it's well known that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, we want our patients to know that there is much we can do through this partnership to prevent, treat and correct even the most advanced heart problems.”

Randolph Health Heart & Vascular Institute, powered by Novant Health, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please call 336-626-3205.
