Asheboro, N.C., - Author and nursing professor Jean Watson said, “Caring is the essence of nursing.”
Gloria Johnson, Licensed Practical Nurse in Cardiac Services at Randolph Health is the personification of
the spirit of nursing. This September, Gloria celebrates fifty years of nursing at Randolph Health. Gloria
began her career in 1974 after graduating from the nursing program at Randolph Community College.
She was immediately hired in the Cardiac Services department, where she remains today, diligently
caring for patients.
In the span of fifty years, Gloria has seen an abundance of change and new technology in all aspects of
healthcare. The one thing that has remained a constant for Gloria is the collective care and compassion
for patients exhibited by the Cardiac Services team. Gloria states, “So much has changed through the
years, but taking great care of patients hasn’t. Patients come for treatment, often anxious or worried.
We provide care that makes them feel better. Before they know it, their treatments and programs are
complete.” She continues, “You just come in and take care of people and it’s the people that have kept
me in this role for fifty years.”
Working at Randolph Health has allowed Gloria the opportunity to have a meaningful career while
ensuring a fulfilling life at home. In 1993, Gloria became Randolph Health’s first part-time flex employee,
allowing Gloria the flexibility to spend more time with her newborn daughter and to care for the needs
of her aging mother. “I can’t believe I’m looking at fifty years, but it doesn’t even feel like I’ve been here
five. I’ve always enjoyed the patients, coworkers, and doctors I’ve worked with at Randolph Health,”
says Gloria. “I have always wanted to work in the field of helping people.” Gloria has no immediate plans
to retire.
Randolph Health will celebrate Gloria Johnson’s fifty years of employment with a special celebration to
honor her service and dedication to our patients, staff and our community.
